East of England Development Agency

EEDA has secured funding to assist a grest number of tourism and hospitality businesses in the region. As you'd expect of a RDA, improving profitability and encouraging job creation are the aims, however 'sustainability' is also taking on a prominent role.

STL have been contracted to work with a wide variety of businesses from traditional B&Bs and guest houses, to food and wine producers. As well as individual support, group sessions, best practice visits, benchmarking and numerous networking opportunities will ensure that each business gets all of the help it needs to improve its business performance.

One North East

The Regional Development in the North East has recently appointed HALM to deliver a programme of business support aimed at improving hospitality management skills and raising productivity levels in the region. Via HALM, Strategic Tourism has been tasked with running a series of workshops and delivering 1:1 consultancy sessions to help achieve these objectives. The hospitality businesses [who pay nothing towards this programme] have a limited number of spaces, so encouraging sign ups via the four DMOs in the region [County Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyen & Wear] should be relatively easy.

Cumbria Tourism

Strategic Tourism has been a member of Cumbria Tourist Board [now Cumbria Tourism] for four years. The aims of both organisations are the same when it comes to increasing the profitability of tourism businesses in the region and marketing the destination effectively. We have recently been appointed to work with eight businesses in the region, to look specifically at human resource issues, marketing and the development of improved eCommerce and IT systems. All of these issues are key to ensuring that each business is as productive as possible, allowing faster growth and greater employment.

North West Development Agency

The NWDA have appointed Strategic Tourism to deliver Business Support services to 16 hospitality businesses in Lancashire and Blackpool. Supported by Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board, the assistance is mainly 1:1 onsite business coaching sessions, as well as best practice visits and groups workshops and seminars.

These programmes are most successful when the relationship between the RDA, Tourist Board, local Business Link, HALM and contractor [i.e. Strategic Tourism] is clear and unambiguous.

Business Link York & North Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a beautiful place, so we weren't too disappointed when we were appointed to work with 40 tourism businesses in North Yorkshire. This Yorkshire Forward funded and Business Link administered project aims to improve the productivity of the businesses involved. These range from caravan parks to hotels, farm tourism businesses to attractions, each receiving individual 1:1 assistance from us. As well as the tailored advice, there are also group workshops and seminars. The project has been so successful that funding has just been agreed for a new 2006 programme with a further 40 hospitality businesses.

Learning and Skills Council, Suffolk

The LSC in Suffolk have funded a fantastic programme of business support for tourism businesses in the region. An eight-step programme to assist ten tourism businesses boost their profitability was launched with STL acting as a 'business coach'. As well as tailored 1:1 support, there are best practise visits, seminars and training sessions. This has involved restaurants, caravan parks, self catering agencies and hotels; a really diverse group, but that's what keeps it interesting!

Derbyshire County Council

Isn't it strange that we always end up working in fantastic places? The Peak District is an amazing place and we're delighted to be assisting DCC with their eMarketing activity. Although we didn't design or manage the website, we help to promote it; in our experience it's strange for a local authority to be so switched on to the web and be investing in this way, but they fully recognise the benefits and it's paying dividends. We've improved the visibility of the site in search engines, helped them improve the number of sites linking back and implemented a programme of 'pay-per-click' advertising through google and overture. In addition, a series of seaonsal email campaigns is helping subcribers to stay up-to-date with the latest goings on in the region.
